Keep it Cool with Box Fans

When you need to get the room to cool down it can be quite the challenge sometimes. Even when you have AC built into the room sometimes the circulation of air just isn’t right so only one part of the room is really getting cold while the rest of it is still warm. It can cost a lot of money to fix an air conditioning unit or even put one into a room. Sometimes we just don’t have the money . But on the other hand it is impossible to work and stay productive or even sit and enjoy yourself in a room that is too hot for words. When you have a tight budget but have to get a room or at least a spot of the room to cool down then what you may have to end up doing is buy a box fan. Box fans are large square fans that you can plug into the wall and put in any area of your room that you want to keep cooler. There are a few different types of box fans so you might want to take a look at these options before you run out and make your purchase.

Size and CirculationThere are many different size of box fans so you might want to think about what would be best for your situation. You don’t want to get something too small or it may not make any real difference in the temperature of the room or the air flow. But you also don’t want to get something too big or it may take up too much space in your room and make things difficult to move or work around. It really depends on the size of the room and where you plan to put the fan.

If you want to use the fan to keep something cool like a computer for example you might just want to use a small box fan. There are 10” or 14” box fans that may work perfect for something like this. It would also be perfect for keeping on your desk. Of if you want to keep your room cooler at night while you are trying to get some sleep you can set a smaller box fan on top of your night stand or dresser so the flow of the air is at the same level as you are. You can find 10” to 14” box fans for around $15-$30.

If you need a larger area cooled off or more circulation in the whole home then you will probably want to go for the 20” box fans. While the other fans were good for specific spots or keeping certain items cold these fans are great for getting the whole room a bit cooler. You can put the fan right next to the door to get the cooler air flowing in, or you can just put them in spot that will circulate the air flow more. You can find 20” box fans for around $20-$50.Great for Sleep Sound

When you need a fast or inexpensive solution to the heat in the room box fans will be the easiest fix. Many people also love box fans for creating a steady and consistent hum at night. Some people can’t sleep very well unless there is some sort of consistent noise and fans are usually the best choice. They keep things cool as well as creating that soothing sound to fall asleep too. You can find box fans online, but if you don’t want to wait for them to get shipped to you they are also at stores like Walmart, Target and Home Depot.

Encuentre el mejor acondicionador de aire

Being overheated is never a good thing. You can overheat your car, your body and your home as well. Air conditioning is a viable solution to keeping your home cool and reasonable while you enjoy life and daily tasks. Air conditioners can take the hassle out of being hot and work as a great dehumidifier option for your home. Here is some great solution to something other than the big ugly box as an air conditioner. A great option is a split air unit. This type of air conditioning system allows the user a lot of advantages. The largest benefit is that you do not need the duct work as you would for a central air system. It is also cost effective as a solution to cooling as the split system cools your room.

Noise levels are often a concern for home owners when they are installing systems. For quiet solutions you can find many systems which are effective in both cost and keeping sound levels low. The split cooling system work with a philosophy that cool air directed will only circulate where it is needed. In this manner it can be easily manipulated and not waste energy. This will be a room by room solution for your air conditioning needs. It is installed in the area you want it to cool and stay there.

Some solutions for cooling can be self installed. This also saves you money in the hiring a contractor to do it for you. One such solution is a portable unit which can function just as well as installed units. They work well in a situation that does not allow you to install a permanent unit. There are different types of portable air conditioners to choose from. Floor models stay on the floor positioned where you want them to cool and wall models which hang on walls to circulate cool air throughout the room it is used in. The choice is yours for your needs and what you prefer in looks.

To keep you air conditioner working properly you will need to ensure that you have properly cleaned your unit so if runs effectively. If it is not cleaned effectively then the system will still run but it will not produce the colder air from the system. You are running a device without it working. The main thing is to ensure you keep the air conditioning filter clean and replace if necessary. Check your maintenance information on your system to know when the proper time is to change your filter. Follow the directions but if it gets dirtier more quickly you will need to change it more often.

Another assurance for proper air condition is to ensure other appliances in your home are being maintained as well. It does make a difference and effects how well you air conditioner functions. The heat emitted from your other appliances can cause your energy bill to go up. You may think it is the air conditioner when in fact it is something else. For example, setting your refrigerator too cool will cause more heat to be emitted from it and causing more energy to be expelled.

Having Energy Star appliances help greatly and this can also include an air conditioning unit in your home. Look for the models that have the Energy Star label on them. They may have a higher price tag but they will save more money for you in the long run. You can stay cool with the array of air conditioners on the market for any situation. Look to the labels, do the research and stay cool about the investment you are making for your comfort.

Learning About Central Heating for Your Home

When it gets a little chilly you turn on the heat. But what types of heating you choose to use in your home is up to you. Central heating is the main source of heating that will be piped through your home. Most every home in the U.S. has some sort of central heat option for their comfort. It is just one of many options for you to consider but still the most popular across America.

Central heating systems have a primary unit which is the crux of their energy. This is usually a furnace or boiler located in an out of the way place in your home such as the garage or basement. Through this unit it delivers heat to your home by pumping warmed air through a system of ductwork installed in the home or by sending hot water or steam through installed piping to radiators or convectors.

Both forced air and gravity systems a thermostat is used to turn on the heat and turn it off as well. Some have cooling units as well. The thermostat is operated manually or automatically as the room temperature changes. You can set the settings you want to have it automatically run or manually adjust it.

In contemporary homes, ducted air systems are the most common type of central heating and cooling. If your home has an air conditioner, heat pump, or furnace, it is a ducted air system. There are two main types of central systems in a modern home which are forced-air and gravity.

A forced air system works by having the furnace heating and warming the air and a heat pump either warms or cools air then releases it into your home. This is done by using a blower to force out the air through the system. For gravity furnaces convection current is used. The heat rises and is carried through the system from a furnace typically located on or below the main flooring of your home. This type of system does not have a blower and they tend to have very large air ducts. If your system includes an air conditioner or heat pump, it is a forced-air system.

Radiant heat is a comfortable, even type of heat that is radiated into living spaces by hot water, steam, or electric elements. With a hydronic radiant system, the central boiler heats water; the resulting hot water or steam then circulates through a system of pipes to room radiators or through variant routes of tubing that wind beneath a floor’s surface and emit heat.

Electric radiant systems may have electric-resistance baseboard or wall registers or a system of electric cables or foils hidden beneath floors or above ceilings. When an electric current runs through an electric-resistance element, cable, or foil, it generates heat, which is radiated into the room. Because radiant heating systems have very few moving parts, they rarely fail. If they do it is most likely because of a circuit overload.

Your central air is often your central heating unit as well. Air conditioners and heat pumps are also forced-air systems. With these, cooled air is usually delivered through the same ductwork and registers used by heated air. It can also be humidified or purified air depending on your system.

An air conditioner runs on electricity and removes heat from air with basic refrigeration principles. A heat pump can provide both heating and cooling. In the winter, a heat pump extracts heat from outside air and delivers it indoors. On hot summer days, it works in reverse, extracting heat from room air and pumping it outdoors.

There are many options for you in regards to central heating. Once you know more about it you will know how to maintain and repair your system. If you are installing a system for the first time it is recommended to hire a central heating contractor. They have the knowledge to install this vital part of your home system to ensure it functions properly.

Choosing an Electric Fireplace for Home Heating

Having a fire roaring and hearing the crackling of logs as you sit back and relax is a great feeling. However you may not even have to light a match to do it. One option is by choosing electric fireplaces as an option. This can give you the feeling of home without the hassle of burning logs or even finding a flu for the smoke.

Once you have decided on the design of the fireplace area you will need to decide exactly how it will be incorporated into the room. The style and location will influence your decision and will also influence your final decision on what you purchase. The color and exterior design should reflect the decor and your personal taste. This type of option could be a plug in, such as a real Amish fireplace or perhaps an insert into an existing space.

Electric fireplaces eliminate many major concerns such as emissions, portability and messy cleanup. These units rarely expend more energy than a standard space heater. Fuel costs incurred, in relation to gas, will depend on where you live and the rates involved there. Many electric fireplaces include features like filtration devices and built in thermostats for your convenience as well.

For most people they choose an attractive type of insert when it comes to electric fireplaces. They are unobtrusive and easy to install. They also easily provide your room with more than enough heat as well as several adjacent rooms. An insert can be installed inside a cabinet or mantelpiece if you have a pre-existing fireplace you would like to enhance. Many times choosing this option is more cost effective than burning an actual wood fire.

Different types of inserts have differing features, though all operate along the same basic principle. You will find that all inserts use some sort of fan forced heater to spread warmth throughout the room they are used in. This dispersing happens in an even pattern from the base of the fireplace.

Heat is generated inside the fireplace by passing an electric current through a series of metal coils known as the heating element. As these get hotter the air inside the fireplace is expelled through a fan, normally mounted on top of or below the fireplace, and directed into an even dispersal pattern by a grille. This allows the fan to distribute a significant amount of heat over a wide area, and makes it possible for the fireplace to heat an entire room almost instantly.

Electric fireplace inserts also uses and intake fan or induction vent somewhere in the unit. This fan or vent ensures that you will get a steady flow of cool, unheated air into the main firebox. This in turn becomes heated by the heating element. This is the warm air that cycles out through the vent and heats the room.

Added features come with the different models available on the market for electric fireplaces. A basic insert can create an illusion of the flickering flames of a real fire. This is done by alternating a flashing wattage of candelabra bulbs built into the underside of the log bed included with it. This log bed is used to produce a glowing ember effect for you to enjoy while the unit is on.

Top end models may use video, projection or a combination of the two. There is other that uses a holographic effect in their technology to create sophisticated and realistic flame effects. Some even have built-in audio units that produce the crackling sound associated with real log fires, while others can be used without turning on the heating element.

The overall price you pay for electric fireplaces will determine how real the model looks in comparison to a real wood-burning flame. Shop around to find the best pricing for the unit you are interested and even though you may have to roast your marshmallows somewhere else you can have a great looking fire in your home.

The Functional Options of Corner Fireplaces

Adding a fireplace to your home can be a welcome bonus to many rooms. Not all homes are blessed to have chimney and working fireplaces. But this no longer has to be an issue as there are many options for homeowners to add this ambience to their living quarters. One option is corner fireplaces. They are convenient and look great in just about any space of your home.

Corner fireplaces are ideal when wall space is at a premium. They are decorative and functional and will bring out the best as a welcomed focal point in your home decor. Choose from a range of styles that will blend beautifully in a traditional, contemporary, or transitional setting. All are easy to access and promise to provide many hours of glowing ambience.

Their design and function in your home have a remarkably unobtrusive footprint. As their name implies, they sit in the corner, out of the way, rounding out the right angle of the walls. A small unit can be only 19 inches deep at its deepest point and 29 inches wide along the front. A fireplace like that will stay out of the way of foot traffic while providing a lovely ambiance to the room. Even a larger unit won’t intrude. A corner fireplace with a 29 inch depth and 42 inch front can still be tucked mostly out of the way.

Corner fireplaces are entirely portable and adjustable to be placed in different areas of your home. Just bring them home and set them in the corner. When it comes time to move, take your fireplace with you. Corner fireplaces are designed to be safe standing right next to a wall, so you don’t have to worry that you’re damaging the paint or wallpaper.

There are two basic types of portable corner fireplaces that can be purchased-electric and gel burning. Both types of corner fireplace are ventless. They don’t need a chimney or any exchange with the outside air. They are lightweight and portable. They can be manually shut off for complete safety.

An electric corner fireplace plugs into a standard wall unit. It doesn’t produce an actual fire. But you’ll be surprised at how realistic and cheery the electric logs are. It’s not just that they look right. Electric logs can crackle and pop just like the real thing. You’ll feel as though you have a real fire going in your kitchen, living room, or bedroom.

Gel fireplaces don’t even need to be plugged in, but they do need to be fuel. The gel fuel is made from grain alcohol and produces a colorless, odorless, non-toxic burn. The gel burns with 100% efficiency so you’re not at risk. The result is a genuine, flickering, dancing fire. You can even add the smell of a wood fire by purchasing incense cones in whatever wood scent you desire. A gel corner fireplace can be used to produce genuine heat in addition to a decorative flame.

As a bonus, corner fireplaces may actually add to your useable space rather than subtract from it like other larger pieces in your room. The mantle shelf on top can provide an ideal location to put pictures, candles, flowers, crystal, porcelain figurines or whatever else you’d like to display. Many double as a TV stand for the room. Others have side compartments to store items out of sight. The way the do not get hot benefits their ability to be multifunctional.

Cozy up to corner fireplaces and consider the possibilities of how they can add style, comfort and function to many rooms of your home. They are reasonably priced and manageable for many homes and budgets to get a great fireplace for your needs.

Choosing the Right Fireplace Inserts for Your Home

A fire warms the heart and feels like home. Whether you own a home or rent an apartment there are models that can run on their own. If you want to create a charming focal point while providing warmth to your rooms then you can install a fireplace. Using fireplace inserts is a great option for those who wish to have the look of a fireplace but do not have a chimney and cannot install one or simply prefer not to.

If you have a chimney fireplace in your home, but do not like the hassle of using it, you can use an electric fireplace insert. Electric logs can be placed in the existing opening to simulate an actual fire that could happen in it. This will allow you to enjoy a fire without the hassle, the fumes and the cost of the wood, kindling and other items needed.

There are a lot of benefits when it comes to have fireplace inserts as opposed to a regular use of your fireplace. You can expect to actually have better heat transference when using this option. This prevents the majority of the heat from escaping into the masonry structure, and therefore escaping your home. For this reason they can quite often work better than a standard fireplace.

Fireplace Inserts have a firebox. This firebox is surrounded by a steel shell. Air from inside your home flows into the shell and radiant heat warms the air, which is then redistributed back into your home. This is why it work so well. You will have more control over the way the heat is distributed and lose less air up the chimney.

The area between the opening of the fireplace and the Insert shell is covered with a faceplate. These faceplates can be very decorative and can really make your fireplace look better or add a modern element to your home. Usually, you can choose between varieties of faceplates. Choosing the fuel type will be the first step. You will need to choose which option will work best for you.

If you want to utilize natural or propane gas, you can either choose between a B-Vent Insert, Direct Vent Insert, or Vent Free Insert. If wood is readily available, you may want to consider a Wood Burning Insert. If neither gas nor wood are viable options, Pellets and Pellet Inserts are also a great and efficient way to heat your home.

Gas Fireplace Inserts can transform your inefficient and pollutant Wood Burning Fireplace into an efficient and clean-burning gas fireplace. There are many different shapes, sizes, and styles to choose from. In recent years, the realism of replica fireplaces has increased dramatically. More advanced techniques are being used to create realistic looking gas logs to simulate burning embers and produce the soothing aromas that we’re all familiar with from a Wood Burning Fireplace.

Pellets are another option for you to consider. They are made from sawmill byproducts and are comprised of compressed sawdust. Installing a Pellet Insert in your existing Wood Burning Fireplace can be a great way to improve efficiency and emit fewer pollutants into the air.

Wood Burning Fireplaces can often be outdated, old, and inefficient. You may be spending more money than you need to achieve the same heat output. Also, you can do a lot for the environment by using a Wood Burning Insert to reduce pollutant emissions. Installing Wood burning insert will ensure that your fireplace will run more efficiently and burn cleaner than your old configuration. Wood burning inserts come in a variety of shapes, styles, and appearances to fit just about every consumer option.

From small to large there is a heater to heat up your space and not your wallet.

A heater powered by electricity works through a process of resistance. It is also know as electrical line voltage. This voltage flows through a heating element and works as resistance when it hits the heating element is uses and creates warmth.

In order to get this warmth you will need a dedicated electrical circuit. This is because of all the power it takes to run the current. It is important to know about the type of circuit and voltage you need for the safety of running the unit in your home.

It is also important to know about how electric heaters work because it helps determine where you can use them. Units work by convection or radiant heat. Convection heat uses natural hot air which rises and relies on this process to move the heat around the room. Radiant heat is different than this as it just heats objects.

For this reason, if you use an electrical heater with convection it will need to be located near the floor level. The unit needs to heat cold air at the floor. A unit using radiant heat can be placed at the floor or the ceiling. Knowing this helps you determine what type of heater using electrical power will work for your needs.

There are several different types of electrical heaters such as wall heaters, electric baseboards, toe kick heaters and electric cover heaters. Knowing their functions will help you determine which one will work best for you.

A wall heater can be used for supplementing heat in smaller rooms. A bathroom is a good example. You can find the placed in between two wall studs and often recessed into the wall. It often uses convection to heat the area it is intended to be used in. Most units like this are self contained with built in thermostats. They are not recommended for exterior walls. These units get hot so caution is advised.

Another option is electric baseboard heaters. These use heating coils for non-motorized convection heating to warm your home. These are what many older homes have utilized in the past but are many times still used. It depends on natural air flow in the rooms there are placed in to work.

This heating source uses convection by drawing in cooler air into the bottom slots of the unit and warmed by the heating coils and fins. In return, the warm air exits from the top slots of the unit. Because of this process, this type of unit is typically placed beneath windows to compensate for heat loss through the glass which naturally occurs. A remote line voltage thermostat may be used to control the baseboard heater or it may come with an integrated thermostat control. It is important to keep the unit clear of drapes and unobstructed by furniture for best performance.

A different option is toe-kick heaters and often used when you have limited space yet need heat. These heaters lie low and stay out of sight to fit conveniently under cabinets or perhaps a vanity. They use a motorized forced air fan which then distributes warm air. It is a great little source of heat for under something and give your heating needs a bit of a boost.

A final consideration is electric cove heaters which use direct radiant heat to give the user maximum comfort. Remember that radiant heat warm objects. Because of this it can be used in many places, out of the way and work effectively.

Caution should always be given when choosing electrical heaters in your home. Remember the needs of voltage, the fact that some units are hot to the touch and placement for their maximum effectiveness.

Choosing Types of Fireplaces for Natural Warmth

There is nothing like the cozy feeling of sitting next to a roaring fire as it brings feelings of warmth and comfort. Many home owners enjoy this subtle ambience on winter days and fall nights with fireplaces for natural warmth. Snuggling up to a good book and your favorite lounging attire in front of a fire is a great feeling. Having a fireplace is a blessing and the enjoyment of using it is part of the thrill. With so many options for homeowners to now have a fireplace in their home the options are endless.

Now days you do not even need a chimney to have a fireplace in your home, condo or apartment. You may not even need wood either. When it comes to the beauty and convenience of having a fireplace there are various sizes, designs and fuel types to suit any living space. Whether you own a home or rent an apartment there are models that can run on their own. If you want to create a charming focal point while providing warmth to your rooms then you can install a fireplace.

Gas fireplaces come with a propane tank or they can also have a natural gas line. These fireplaces use a switch to provide instant heat for your convenience. They can sometimes be connected to existing ductwork to create a central heating system. Gas appliances burn cleaner than wood, but still produce emissions. So ensure for proper ventilation. As with any heating source that is gas you should adhere to proper safety measures in your home.

Many are interested in the real Amish fireplace. This is a wonderful idea but has warnings online about a possible scam. Sure the Amish have fireplaces but remember their heritage and philosophies. If an electric fireplace calls itself Amish you may want to suspect something.

Gel fueled fireplaces are fairly new on the market. They are vent less, wireless, smokeless appliance and they rely on an alcohol based gel housed in a canister. The drawback to this option is that the gel fuel can be expensive. But like electric fireplaces, these units are portable and easy to maintain. They can be a viable option for many when you need the portable convenience.

Fireplace inserts are another option.

Once you have decided on the design of the fireplace area you will need to decide exactly how it will be incorporated into the room. The style and location will influence your decision and will also influence your final decision on what you purchase. The color and exterior design should reflect the décor and your personal taste.

If you have a real chimney it is important to maintain it and to budget in for it to happen at least once a year. You can clean the flu for your fireplace yourself but you will need to adhere to safety precautions. If you wish to find a qualified chimney sweep in your area it is easy to do so. The still are around for you to keep this part of your investment solid and functional.

The Many Looks of Fireplace Mantels for Your Home

When you have a fireplace you will most likely also have a mantel surrounding it. This is exactly what fireplace mantels are. The mantel frames a fireplace and completes its look just like a frame completes the look of a picture. It is also a place to hold items for decoration. This could be stockings during the holidays or favorite family photos. There are several mantels on the market and it can be an excellent finishing touch to the design focal point that is your fireplace.

Most areas where a fireplace is set there is room for a mantel. However you should still measure space carefully as there are different sizes of mantels on the market. If you want a certain look, and the mantel will stick out you want to ensure you have the room.

In most cases when you order a mantel it will be a standard size in relation to your fireplace. However there are always exceptions to every rule. If you have one that has been custom made you may have to also have a custom mantel made as well.

There are several shapes when it comes to mantels. Some fireplace mantels are made to fit along a straight wall, while others can fit in corners. There are some that have storage capabilities or are made to work in conjunction with an entertainment center. Flat screen televisions have made it possible to mount televisions above fireplaces, and there are mantles to accommodate this new design trend.

Fireplace mantels are available in a wide range of materials and styles. The choice of mantels is one largely based on the decor or a home and the style of the owner. From modern to antique homes, there is a mantle available to fit anyone’s tastes. You can get very creative with your design and create the look you want.

Some common materials fireplace mantels are made from are stone, wood, ceramic, and metal. The most common mantel is typically wooden. Wood types regularly found are pine, oak, cherry and cedar. Similarly to those made of stone, ceramic mantels can be precast in solid units or tiled.

Certain materials make more sense with particular decors. For a rustic look, clean lined simple wooden frames work best. When choosing a mantle for a modern home, consider stainless steel or solid marble for a sleek look. French provincial styles work well with ceramics and heavily adorned fireplace mantles. Granite, oak, cherry and tile provide traditional looks that can be timeless.

Remember that in designing a mantel surrounding a fireplace it will be a distinct focal point in your room. In doing so the choice you make is important. Though you can refurbish an existing fireplace mantel you may want clean lines and base colors. If you are going for a more formal room this can also be the case. But if you wish to highlight a photo or other object above the mantel you may want to stick with one that has little ornatations so as not to compete with the other object above it.

If you are on a budget you are not alone. But this does not mean that you can not spruce up the existing mantel you already have. Many home improvement stores and online retailers sell embellishment kits that include wood, chrome, copper, steel, stone or tile improvements that can be added to simple fireplace mantels. A homeowner could keep their current mantle and make a big change to its appearance. Those on a budget can also purchase a new simple mantle and embellish it to their liking, often saving quite a few dollars in the process. This is similar to cabinet refacing in the kitchen.

Choosing Floor Heating for Your Home

There are many different types of heating solutions for your home. You can have many options in addition to the standard options to add more variety and flexibility to how you stay warm. Floor heating is a viable solution for home environments that many people are choosing to stay toasty while walking around their floor.

If you have not heard of it before, welcome to the world of floor heating. It is a type of system which provides alternative heating to your home by way of a heat source which is installed under the flooring of a room. This type of under floor heating and cooling process offer a central indoor climate control which delivering thermal comfort through your entire home where it exists.

While this source of heat is supplied directly to the floor it is interdependent with the radiant heat transfer within the room. It is delivered from the hot surface to the people and objects in the room to work effectively. There are several different types of flooring which work as great heat sources for you to choose from. They are hydronic, electric and wood-burning.

The most popular choice according to the U.S. Department of Energy is hydronic flooring. This could be because of the way this radiant heat system works for the consumer and the effectiveness in the home. Another top reason is because it is the most cost effective for the person who chooses to use it.

Hydronic flooring systems are an environmental friendly alternative to conventional heating. This solution can bring your comfort and energy saving options to your household. They work by using a heated water pump from a water heater or boiler which sends heat through tubing beneath the floor. This in turn will loop through the tubes and control your room’s heat using a system of zoning pumps, valves or thermostats.

Another option is electric radiant flooring. This system will heat a room using electric cables and/or mats. It is also installed and mounted under the flooring you walk on, also known as the sub-flooring. It is located just below a floor covering which can be cooler to walk on such as wood, laminate or tile.

Using electric radiant heat is a great solution for warming up smaller spaces like the bathroom or the kitchen. You can use it for your entire home but it is not as cost effective as hydronic systems. This is due to the high amount of electricity it would take to do so, but is a great idea for specific spaces.

The third option for floor heating is a wood burning system. It works in similarity with the hydronic method. However, instead of a boiler to heat the tubes it will use a wood box to heat the water which flows through the system. It will circulate in the same manner once it is heated.

For this heating solution the amount of time it can deliver heat depends on the size of the wood box. This can be an average of twelve to ninety six hours depending on its sizing. Because of this many choose wood burning radiant heat as a back up to more standardized methods within their home.

Look to floor heating as a viable alternative option for staying warm when you need it. The cost of installing this system will vary but the effects overall of having this option adds up to an environmentally friendly solution to the warmth you need. It is highly recommended that when you choose this option that you seek out a contractor with recognized experience in this type of installation.
