Prescribing a functional space for all of your belongings in the bathroom

Medicine cabinets are functional and practical for everyday use in any home. They hide a lot of items we don’t want people to see and give us an extra mirror to get ready in the morning. They can keep items that are harmful to children out of reach and also give us a place to find all of those items when we really need them. It is a practical invention and an asset to your home.

A recessed medicine cabinet will be most likely the first thing you think of when you hear the word. They are recessed to make the flush with a wall and not stick out of the wall. They save room and give the area a sleek look. Most have mirrors on them for added benefit to add to the room.

You can find cabinets in all shapes and sizes from small round ones to large triple sliding doors. Many companies will also custom make a cabinet for you based on your needs for a home build or a redesign. You can find these people through the purchase of the cabinet you want to install or through a handyman facilitator.

There are also semi-recessed cabinets that have the function of being partially imbedded in the wall. This can be because you want to have the flexibility of design or your wall width cannot withstand a full recessed medicine cabinet. They can still have a nice design feature and serve to be functional for your room.

A wall cabinet has no recession in it whatsoever. Because of this many wall cabinets have nice design features because you will see the entire piece. They can be very fashionable and useful. These types of cabinets are good not only for a wall that cannot withstand a recessed cabinet but also for a temporary living arrangement such as an apartment where you cannot install a recessed cabinet or need an extra one.

Do not let the comfort of a medicine cabinet deter from making sure that your medicines and other products are kept safe from little hands that can be curious about a medicine. Also ensure that you are properly supervising your child and also that you have a bottle of syrup of ipecac on hand in case the unfortunate should arise. There are also locking medicine cabinets available for purchase if you would like to lock your cabinet for extra security.

Secure your home belongings with simple locks

Everybody has stuff and everyone needs a place to keep their stuff. Some belongings you have in your home need to be under lock and key. Some is for the protection of others and other things are for your privacy. You can secure your belongings easily in your home by having an effective cabinet lock where you need them.

Everyone will have different needs for cabinet locks available on the market for your use. Some have children in their homes. Safeguarding them is every parent’s responsibility as there are hidden dangers for curious minds. Often items in several areas of the home need to be kept not only out of reach but locked up. No matter how good your children are they are still curious.

There may be a cabinet in your kitchen that you want to lock up. Perhaps it is a place where you keep liquor or other items that you do not want readily accessible to every member of your family. A simple lock on one cabinet is possible in any area of your home.If you have home office with sensitive material it is simple to install a file cabinet lock to secure vital information from others. Some file cabinets already come with a lock built in. But they are easy to install if you need to and come with basic instructions that anyone can follow. If you are a gun owner it is good to have a cabinet that locks for your gun and its supplies. Many cabinets for guns can be great because they have a separate drawer to keep bullets separately. You can keep a locked cabinet in a room such as a bedroom closet that is tucked away, especially if you have children in the home.It is good to have a lock in your garage for solvents and cleaners that can be harmful to others. It is simple to install a lock on any regular cabinet door. You can find your locks at any home improvement store for purchase at a very affordable rate.

Technology has come a long way with locks. With many electronic devices popping up all over the market the area of locks are not left out. You can get electronic locks that can be coded for any number to open to make it easier on you and more difficult on others. There is also new technology that is being made to make locks voice activated. For a sturdier lock check the local hardware store. Locks that need a key to open and are metal provide more secured access. Your older children would need a key to access the family computer or liquor cabinet. Check that the locks will work with your cabinets. Glass cabinets need a type of lock, called a ratchet lock, that is made especially for glass. Tumbler locks and cylinder cam locks are great for sliding drawers, like filing cabinets and desks. Pin tumbler door locks work like little dead bolts for cabinets. The important thing to remember is that the cabinet doors need to be sturdy enough to handle the lock; you may need to reinforce the doors and frame so that the locks will hold. Look at chest and lid locks also. These are wonderful for window seats and hope chests. They have to be permanently installed and require a key for opening. They are wonderful for protecting valuables and sentimental items. By locking the lids you are protecting curious little fingers from getting pinched, and protecting your items from anything those little fingers can do to them. used to store and organize documents in homes and businesses. Many of these cabinets come equipped with locks to help keep documents secure, and may include cam or plunger-type locking mechanisms. Quite often, the owners of these cabinets have to replace these locks due to lost keys, or to prevent unauthorized access in an office setting. Fortunately, it is fairly easy to replace a filing cabinet lock, even if you no longer have the key.

Making the Old New Again

When remodeling you don’t have to necessarily purchase everything brand new. You can save a lot of money and time by remodeling the cabinets. Remodeling cabinets can be a lot easier than what you think. Whether you paint, refinish or resurface the cabinets depends upon you; however, all three will give your old cabinets a new up-to-date look. Just by giving your cabinets a well deserved “face-lift” can help to give the entire room that up dated feeling that you desire.

When it comes to remodeling cabinets, you do have different options. It is up to you which one it is that you will want to go with. The different options require different amounts of work and time that should be invested in the project. Make sure that you take your time and do the job right the first time. Don’t get in a hurry because to remodel your cabinets right will take time. Here are some options for you.

1. Paint. Painting the outside of your cabinets will definitely give them a whole new look. Painted cabinets are in style. There are a few things that you will need to do prior to painting. Make sure that you get your surface ready to accept the paint. You can do this by removing any old paint or by sanding the cabinets and removing the dust. You may want to paint a layer of primer onto the surface first. The primer should be determined based upon the underlying surface of the cabinets. Are they wood, metal, etc? There are different primers for different surfaces, so make sure you choose the right one.

2. Refinishing. You can refinish your cabinets with a new stain that’s fresh and will give a fresh look. Again, make sure that you get your surface ready to accept the stain. Remove any prior paint or stain by sanding. Remove the dust. Choose the color and type of stain that you want and begin. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer. When done staining, apply a clear layer of varnish to help add shine and for protection.

3. Refacing. You can actually find people to do this for you. Would you like to have to counter tops but can’t afford them? Try refacing by applying a new laminate. This will save you a lot of money.

The choice is yours. You can achieve a new look without spending a lot of cash. Save your money for something else. If your current cabinets are in good physical shape, then why replace them? Just remodel them.

After you've chosen your new kitchen cabinet doors and drawer fronts, you might be tempted just to accept the standard hardware that comes with the floor model. Consider getting custom kitchen cabinet knobs for a unique look in your home.

It is all about details

After you’ve chosen your new kitchen cabinet doors and drawer fronts, you might be tempted just to accept the standard hardware that comes with the floor model. Consider getting custom kitchen cabinet knobs for a unique look in your home. In noticing a kitchen’s looks do you say wow or ow? The look of a kitchen can be finished in designed wow with the right drawer hardware or be a big ow when you mismatch your hardware with the look of your room. You can have a great look in your home that people will notice in a short time and say wow by thinking about what you attach to your drawers.

Don’t stop at considering your dècor when you’re choosing kitchen cabinet knobs. Yes, that deep, burnished brass will look lovely with your dark cherry cabinets, but what about something a little more original? Suppose there’s a hobby or an animal that’s strongly significant to you and your family? Wouldn’t it be nice to have kitchen cabinet knobs in shapes that represent your passion? You can find kitchen cabinet knobs shaped like the head of your favorite Labrador retriever or in a patriotic maple leaf. If you can dream it, you can find kitchen cabinet knobs that can match it. If you collect antiques finish the look and put antique knobs and pulls on them. You can find them in many antique stores that have eclectic looking knobs that you can buy separately. Make your antiques usable and enhance their style by putting on knobs to match their flavor and age.

But don’t stop at thinking of metal. Popular kitchen cabinet knobs can be found in glazed pottery in unique, hand-painted designs to give your kitchen a bright, cheerful and homey look. Perhaps you’d prefer something a little more traditional and would like wrought iron kitchen cabinet knobs, or even knobs carved out of wood matching your cabinets. For a much more decadent look, perhaps you’d prefer kitchen cabinet knobs carved out of glass or semi-precious stones.

Whatever you choose for kitchen cabinet knobs, don’t only go for look. These are useful objects as well, and you should choose kitchen cabinet knobs that feel good to the hand. It’s better not to have sharp edges or points. When choosing cabinet hardware, consider how you’ll be cooking. Do you open doors swiftly and push them shut without thinking much? You’ll want something you won’t catch on clothing or jewelry. Use your imagination and you’ll find that you’ll create a perfect and unique look for your kitchen that’s your very own. In some rooms you will want to keep your drawer décor as simple as possible. For example a home office needs to be practical and functional. Your handles will be practical and easy to use without thinking. You can also make them metal so accent nicely but give practicality. In other rooms you can get funky. You can have fun with your knobs and pulls and match the eclectic look of your room quite easily. They can be a great conversation piece too. Make sure they match the design style of the piece you put them on for a good flow in the room as well. Glass knobs are a fun touch in many rooms. A nice powder room with a crystal knob can reflect light in a small space very well. You can have a good looking buffet chest with your best dishes and crystal in it and have glass knobs to compliment the look and feel of the room. You can have a lot of fun in a children’s room with the knobs you use. If your child has a theme you can either get character heads or shapes to match. Or you can use bright colored knobs to teach your child colors and also where to put things away. This also teaches them how to pick up without even knowing it.

Facing the admiring eyes

Your kitchen cabinets set the tone for how your kitchen will look and are the base of it. You will also be able to store your goods as well as the items you need to run your kitchen effectively. Deciding on the style, the size and placement for your cabinets is the easiest thing you have the ability to do for customization and then your kitchen can run with optimal functionality. If you’ve decided to reface your kitchen cabinets, you might be lingering awhile over the kitchen cabinet door, wondering what would be the best choice for your new kitchen look. Whatever your choice, new kitchen cabinet doors really can bring an easy and inexpensive lift to your kitchen with a new look that will bring a smile to your face every time.

When you’re replacing your kitchen cabinet doors you have an amazing array of choices before you. Do you like the sleek and clean look of glass-fronted cabinets? If you choose glass-fronted cabinets, be sure to choose glass that has no glare, or you won’t be able to see into your cabinets when light shines on them. If do you prefer the charm of natural wood, you can find dozens of hard and soft woods that will suit your fancy. Perhaps you’d prefer a painted surface to match the bright colors of your new kitchen.

One of the most popular materials for cabinetry is wood. This is because of its long lasting durability and beauty as well as strength. It comes in a wide range or colors and looks. From maple to hickory to oak and many other styles you can create an interesting looks with their colors and grains. Wood also has a high dimensional stability which means your dinnerware and glassware will be on a sturdy surface when they are being stored between uses. You can keep them in the cabinets knowing they will be protected as they are an investment. Laminate is another popular cabinet material for the kitchen and can be customized to fit in with the décor in virtually any kitchen. There are different glazes available and finishes. Some of these can create a dramatic effect in the way the cabinets look.

There are also ready to assemble cabinet sets. They contain the same high quality and can be installed by yourself or hire another to do so. This may be a better option for you if the specs fit with the cabinet placement you are going for. Some are made of particle board that is not as strong as real wood so know your use before you opt for particle board. Whatever you choose be sure that you’re choosing a look that’s lasting. You don’t want your new kitchen cabinet doors to go out of style in a few years. Remember those avocado-painted cabinets of the 1970s! Natural wood colors are always a good choice as wood never really goes out of fashion. But even there, you have lots of choices. Do you prefer a dark and elegant look or a bright, rustic feel? If you choose new wood kitchen cabinet doors, you can buy them finished or unfinished. Then, the choice is yours as far as stain, paint or varnish. Does the clean, pristine white of a French country kitchen appeal to you, or do you prefer the enameled brightness of a sleek, art-deco look?

Artisan’s touch for your artisan’s soul

At the core of any kitchen is its cabinetry. When you’re remodeling your kitchen, you want cabinetry that reflects the mood and feel you want to create in the center of your home. Instead of going with something chosen off the shelf, don’t you think your kitchen deserves the unique beauty of professional cabinet makers and cabinetry? There’s nothing quite like a custom cabinet designed to illustrate a lifestyle. The basics of cabinet making begin with the differences between kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, which is mainly size. Base, or floor cabinets, in the kitchen are standard and measure 36 inches tall, and those in the bathroom are thirty inches. The wall cabinets in either room will depend on taste and design. Assembling cabinet parts is a snap with pneumatic tools. Make sure the setting on the air compressor matches the pounds per square inch noted on the tool.

When you’re remodeling your kitchen, you want to pay special attention to the storage space afforded by its cabinetry. But it’s not just the storage space, it’s the look! Custom cabinetry is the way to go to get everything you want in your new kitchen cabinets. Do you have odd-sized storage needs? What about the angles in your kitchen? Would a Lazy Susan corner cabinet be just the thing to ensure you have plenty of cabinet space? When considering your kitchen cabinetry needs, while of course you want to make sure that you are choosing the look you want, do not neglect the function.Consider how you cook and how it would be most convenient to store your dishes, canned goods and other kitchen utensils. When you have a cabinet maker create custom cabinets for you, you’re not limited to the out of the box shelf heights. You can make it to measure to your own unique needs.A good cabinet maker can help you choose the custom cabinet making and cabinetry you need to have the look that suits your kitchen best. Whether you like the elegance of highly-polished dark cherry or the rustic beauty of pine, someone experienced in cabinet making will help you make the best decision for your kitchen. A skilled cabinet maker will use the best hardware available for the smooth sliding of kitchen cabinet drawers and well-hung cabinet doors. Custom cabinetry is one of the subtler items of kitchen luxury, but one you’ll love forever.

Design the cabinets you enjoy can involve different processes for different people. Some sketch out what they are thinking and others use computer programs to design with. Others discuss it and talk about it and others just go for it. Whatever way you begin this task you will want to have a plan in your head as to what you are going to do. If you are relaying this desire to others you will want to be clear with one another about your desired results and expectations. Do not ever assume that someone knows what you are thinking. Visual references are always best when in discussion with someone who is designing your cabinets. As you have a vital connection with your contractor you need to also have an understanding of what they will do for your needs. One aspect is measuring your cabinets. You may do this yourself and then give the measurement to the cabinet maker. However, when you hang them they do not work. Your first inclination is do blame the cabinet maker. But in reality you may have naively measured the cabinets. This is why measuring is vital in the process. You may want the measurements to be done by a professional to ensure there are no mistakes made.

Painting your cabinets! Brand new cabinet within reach!

You want to give your kitchen a facelift, but you’re concerned about how much money you should spend on new cabinets. Well, have you considered giving your kitchen a facelift by refinishing or refacing your cabinets? Paint is one of the least expensive and easiest ways to improve a home. Color wheels and color families make it stress free for the average consumer. Most people take the task on themselves; however, some hire contractors to complete the job. The results may be stunningly dramatic or clean and simple, depending on the atmosphere desired. It can add spark to an old kitchen in no time with surprising results. And you will still have money in the bank to buy groceries because it is a lot less expensive than buying new cabinets.

When you refinish a cabinet, all you’re doing is applying a new surface to all the old exposed surfaces. It’s amazing the new look you can give old cabinets merely by refacing them.

You can bring those old cabinets up to date at a fraction of the costs of new ones simply by applying the appropriate wood veneer and installing new doors. This is a technique you’ll especially want to use when you have partial-overlay doors where you can still see some of the face frame. The most common kind of veneer used is a self-stick veneer, but be careful! Even though you won’t be messing with pots of adhesive, the materials used to stick the veneer to the old cabinet facing are very strong. Be sure that you have measured and cut properly before you apply it, as once you’ve stuck it on your cabinets, it’s there permanently! After you’ve applied the veneer, you can hang the new doors, and you have a beautiful new look for your whole kitchen.

If you have old-fashioned solid wood cabinets, you can strip away the old paint and restore the original beauty of them by refinishing your cabinets. This isn’t something you’ll want to undertake lightly, as you’ll be working with harsh chemical solvents to get rid of the layers of varnish and paint from the old look. But, after you’ve stripped away the old paint or varnish, you’ll be ready to clean and prep the old wood surface. A good sanding is always in order before you apply the wood stain of your choice. After that, a light coat of varnish will give you a whole new look to your kitchen that you’re sure to love. To refinish the look of antique cabinets first remove all hardware from the doors using a screwdriver.Take the hinges off the doors and carefully place the doors on a dropcloth or tarp. Place the hardware in a bucket with warm soapy water. Soak the hardware for about an hour and then scrub it with a soft bristle brush. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Wash the cabinet doors. Fill a bucket with warm soapy water and scrub the doors with a rag or dish towel. Use dish washing liquid soap with bleach for the best cleaning power. Scrub off excess grease and grime with a soft bristle brush. Dry the cabinet doors with a clean, dry cloth. Sand damaged areas.Gently rub away any scratches on the wood with fine-grit sandpaper. Brush off excess dust with a dry cloth. Rub in wood oil with citrus elements using a dry cloth. Wipe off the cabinet surface while the doors are unattached. Use warm soapy water as you did with the cabinet doors. Scrub with a dish towel or rag. Dry thoroughly to prevent streaking. Reattach hardware to the doors and rehang them securely. If you are going to paint the cabinets, skip to the next step. Paint the cabinets if necessary. If your cabinets were painted previously, scrape off any chipped paint using a scraper. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and paint the cabinet doors before reattaching the hardware. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly and reattach hardware using a drill.
