The tissue paper did not want to be thrown out and those in the factory discovered that the mistake was actually a blessing when it can to absorption. And in 1907 the paper towel was discovered and became very popular for household use.
For over a hundred years paper towels have been cleaning up the market of profit as they now have become a household staple. They are made from paper pulp of trees and when combined together at high pressures are formed into a good source of absorption.
The embossing on each towel gives the product its absorption. The waffle look of the towel gives it this ability and the more the squares are compressed the better the absorption level. Scott introduced paper towels to the general market in 1931 as an alternative to the regular towel. The paper towel didn’t need to be washed and it could just be thrown away making it very appealing.
At first the marketing for the paper towel was geared toward women in the kitchen. But the rage of the paper towel ripped into many different uses. It can clean windows and be used in the garage. As the ease of use was discovered throughout the country popularity grew and now paper towels are the second highest paper product sold in the United States second only to toilet paper.
Colored papers were introduced about thirty years ago but most paper towels are brown. For home use they are mostly white. This is due to a bleaching process when being produced to make the towels look more pristine and appealing to buy. You can also see the dirt collect better and know they are doing their job. They also come with many embossed designs to decorate your home.
The United States consumes two thirds of the world’s paper towels. The U.S. is using paper towels like gangbusters and in doing so the concern has arisen that they are environmentally damaging the earth because they are only used one time as opposed to conventional towels. There have been improvements by companies to develop paper towels from recycled materials to reduce waste and maintain having the use of as many paper towels as we need.
